Find your machine

How to identify your MacBook before you sell it

1

Check the box first

The part number sits next to the barcode on the original packaging, in the format MW1W3LL/A. That single code pins down the exact configuration and the exact price.

2

No box? Use About This Mac

Apple menu › About This Mac gives you the model, chip, memory and storage. Read those four things to us over the phone and we can quote it.

3

Check the battery cycle count

Hold Option, click the Apple menu, choose System Information, then Power. A high cycle count on an older machine affects the offer — it is better to know before you come in.

4

Sign out, then erase

Back up with Time Machine, sign out of iCloud and the App Store, then run Erase All Content and Settings. Apple Silicon Macs carry Activation Lock, and a locked machine cannot be resold.

What we look at

How we price a Mac

  • Chip — M4 Max, M4 Pro, M2 Max, M1 Pro all price differently
  • Screen size — 16" carries a clear premium over 14"
  • Memory and SSD — upgraded configurations pay more
  • Sealed vs. activated — deduct $100 once it's been set up
  • Battery cycles and health
  • Chassis and screen condition — no cracks, no dead pixels

Upgrading an office?

We buy business fleets and retire lots of ten machines or more. Call ahead with a spec sheet and we'll price the batch and have the cash ready.

Ready to sell your MacBook?

Find your part number, call to confirm, and bring it to West 47th Street. Cash on the spot — no shipping a $2,000 laptop to a warehouse and hoping.

MacBook FAQ

Common questions

How much is my MacBook Pro worth?
Match the part number on your machine to the table on this page — that is the number we pay. Our top MacBook payout right now is $2,700 for a 16-inch MacBook Pro. Configuration matters enormously on Macs: the same model year with a different chip, memory or SSD can be a thousand dollars apart.
Where do I find my MacBook part number?
It is printed on the original box next to the barcode, in the format MW1W3LL/A. If you no longer have the box, click the Apple menu › About This Mac and read us the model description and serial number — we will identify it for you over the phone.
Do you buy MacBooks with cracked screens?
No. A cracked or delaminating display on a MacBook costs more to repair than we can recover on resale. The machine needs a clean screen, a working keyboard and a battery that holds a charge.
How old a MacBook will you buy?
We buy 2020 models and newer — essentially the Apple Silicon era, from the M1 MacBook Air and 13-inch Pro forward. Intel Macs no longer clear the resale bar in this market.
Do I need to erase my MacBook before selling it?
Yes, and it is worth doing carefully. Back up with Time Machine or to iCloud, sign out of iCloud, iMessage and the App Store, then erase the machine using Erase All Content and Settings under System Settings › General › Transfer or Reset. Activation Lock applies to Apple Silicon Macs exactly as it does to an iPhone.
What does "deduct $100 if activated" mean?
Our listed prices are for sealed machines that have never been set up. Once a Mac has been activated it enters the used market, and the price drops accordingly. Everything else — condition, cycle count, accessories — is assessed at the counter.
Do you buy iMac, Mac Mini or Mac Studio?
Sometimes, depending on the configuration and what is moving. Desktop Macs are not on our standard list, so call (212) 768-0044 with the model and specs before you carry one across Midtown.
Can I sell a MacBook that is still under AppleCare?
Yes. Remaining AppleCare+ coverage generally transfers with the machine and can add a little to the offer, so mention it when you bring it in.
